The home building industry relies on working closely with municipalities.

About 3 years ago I decided to see if we could improve the relationship between Clark County and the homebuilding industry. I remembered when I was younger that a Clark County building official named Larry Collins would conduct a monthly meeting between builders and county officials over lunch. I decided to restart that. We now meet twice a month virtually.

I wanted to focus on improving the time it takes to approve a building permit and improve the consistency of on-site inspections. As a byproduct of working together, I also wanted to build trust amongst each other.

There is mutual interest in improving the cycle time of approving a building permit. The public sector collects their money faster as does the private. I am happy to announce that the County is now approving plans in a month or less… A huge improvement!!

The culture within the building officials has also made big strides, which has really helped in getting more consistent inspections. We really appreciate all their efforts.

The trust factor amongst everybody is terrific. We are now working on improvement initiatives that everyone will benefit. With a bit of nudging from the private sector, the County is pushing hard to get E-Plan implemented, target date 6/30/22. This will be a digital platform for permit submittals. This will take us all to the next level of efficiency. Can’t wait!!

I want to thank all those that have committed to make this happen. Keep up the good work.
