How long have you worked in Real Estate?
I started in 1977. Some of my coworkers think I was given a “real estate license” rather than a “birth certificate” when I was born, but I have been given the pleasure to meet wonderful people over the years that I would never have met otherwise.

What is your specialty?
I specialize in working with people, whether buying or selling. Most of my career has been equally split between these two processes. Each year as the market changes different challenges appear.

What is one tip you have for someone looking to buy or sell a home?
Get a good understanding of the current process. As a buyer, you need to know what lenders are requiring of you and have realistic expectations of how many offers you may need to make to get that perfect house. You also need to get an understanding of how to have your offer packaged so that it gives you the best chance of getting that home as you compete against a number of other buyers.
As a seller, even though the market is extremely active and you may get multiple offers, there is a danger of overpricing your home or forgetting that buyers may respond emotionally to a counter offer or repair modification in a way that doesn’t seem logical or at all what you expected.

What is the most unique property you’ve listed or sold?
Every seller’s property is unique in its own way, and that is what I try to focus on in my marketing. Waterfront homes, view homes, farms, downtown condos, homes with privacy on acreage, and even homes in newer neighborhoods which offer more energy efficient benefits.

What is the most unusual thing you’ve encountered while working in real estate?
Getting to closing at escrow is always a unique time because of all the hard work both buyers and sellers go through to get there. So the one time my buyers had a toddler that bit the escrow officer in the leg stands out as one of the “I never would have guessed this would happen” events.

What is the most challenging/gratifying aspect of what you do?
Helping people through a process that solves a problem they have. Everyone buys or sells for a reason and the pace at which they go through that process will depend on their reason or motivation for what they are doing.

What do you see in the future for real estate sales/prices?
I think the number of sales and homes prices will continue to go up, although I hope at a slower pace than we have seen lately. It is a case of supply and demand and it takes time for developers and building to go through the development and building process to help increase that supply. My only word of caution is that interest rates will go up eventually, and until then, this is an opportunity that may not exist in the future.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? Hobbies, volunteering, family, fun?
Spending time with my wife and grand kids (We do have 12 of them), going for walks, reading, and having fun at the coast.

What do you like about living in this area?
It is so easy to take for granted the beautiful mountain views, looking down the gorge with the Columbia River pointing the way, the fresh air and open countryside that is minutes away from all of us. Proximity to the Long Beach Peninsula is a plus. The quality people you meet and share these experiences with enhances all that Clark County has to offer.
