How long have you worked in Real Estate?
I’ve been continuously licensed for 24 years and have been at this John L Scott office for 17 years. Previously, I have experience in home construction, site development, home improvements and sales of construction services. In the late 70’s early 80’s I sold homes to be placed on the clients’ land.
What is your specialty?
I help my clients build wealth and security. I solve problems for my clients. In addition to homes I sell plexes, vacant land and love to sell horse properties.
What is one tip you have for someone looking to buy or sell a home?
Start early and work late. Be there first and be prepared to make a commitment. Give your lender everything they need to supply a glowing letter.
What is the most unique property you’ve listed or sold?
The inexpensive property that everyone overlooked.
What is the most unusual thing you’ve encountered while working in real estate?
18% interest rates in the 80’s, 3% interest recently, adjustable interest rates, zero down payments, no qualification loans, short sales, bank owned, no one wants to buy, everyone wants to sell, everyone wants to buy, no one wants to sell, pocket listings, CFPB, RMBS, TRID, FIRPTA, every change is more unusual than the last.
What is the most challenging/gratifying aspect of what you do?
My client was a single mom with limited resources. I made four separate offers to the same seller and they were all rejected. The seller accepted our fifth offer. It was the only home on the market that she qualified for. She is living there now with substantial equity.
What do you see in the future for real estate sales/prices?
A home purchase is a long term investment and it does not matter what it’s worth until you need to sell. You could buy a nice home in the 80’s for $70k. Now it’s $300k. Look to the past to know the future.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? Hobbies, volunteering, family, fun?
My children, grandchildren and my home. I love spending time with my dog Kramer. Hiking, meeting people, swimming, walking the beautiful Columbia River waterfront.
What do you like about living in this area?
There are a lot of big things happening in Clark County. It’s exciting to see the growth. I love the mild climate, proximity to Portland, the mountains, the gorge, the ocean. Low crime, easy traffic, nice people and reality of a life uninhibited by the tragedies so abundant around the world.
Anything else you would like our readers to know about you and your company?
Of all the things life has given me, what I cherish most are the thing I’ve given to others. John L Scott is a family owned business with Lennox Scott, the third generation. It is rare for the heirs to retain the enthusiasm and work ethic of the founder. The trust and confidence that the public holds for the John L Scott company has contributed greatly to my success in real estate.
