Welcome to Hazelwood! This is a neighborhood where the rich history of Clark County meets the convenience and livability of modern Hazel Dell. Located on the NE 72nd block, the neighborhood borders the west side of the 78th Street Heritage Farm. Hazelwood is a safe, quiet neighborhood with beautifully landscaped, newer-built homes. This is a friendly neighborhood where residents can take a stroll in and around the farm and enjoy breath-taking views of Mt. Saint Helens. This well-planned community has a wonderful rural feel yet is also within walking distance to many restaurants, coffee shops and stores.

The 78th Street Heritage Farm is a 99-acre property that serves as a working farm and educational facility that is dedicated to improving the quality of life in the community. This property was known as the Clark County Poor Farm from 1873-1943 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. With a long-standing history of helping the community, the Heritage Farm is managed by Washington State University for Clark County; they have many programs that educate and enrich the community with food grown on the farm. Hazel Dell Community Park is also located on this property and adds to the walkability of the neighborhood. The Heritage Farm is a wonderful resource, so stop by and ask about the Natural Garden tour organized each year through the extension office. Be sure to request a list of gardens that have been featured and are within walking distance from the Master Gardener office.

While you are in the Hazel Dell area, stop by Amaro’s Table for some delicious food and cocktails. They have a fantastic Happy Hour, and if you have a bit of a sweet tooth, the Ricotta Doughnuts are amazing. Another one of my favorite spots is Yard ‘n Garden Land; they have a wonderful variety of plants, shrubs and trees including native varieties. I am quite sure they have everything a person could need to garden.
