How long have you worked in Real Estate?
I am beginning my 14th year in Real Estate. I started out as a real estate salesperson, and am now a Managing Broker in Washington and Principal Broker for Oregon (same thing, different title in different states). I view Southwest Washington/Portland Metro as one big marketplace.

What is your specialty?
I have a few different areas I specialize in. It’s kind of a funny mix as I work with the bankruptcy court selling distressed properties, as well as specialize in Luxury Homes. The Asivido Team believes in treating all people well and taking great care of them so we work in all areas of real estate and make our clients’ goals our top priority regardless of the home or land price.

What is one tip you have for someone looking to buy or sell a home?
This may sound cliché but it’s still true: find the right real estate broker. Not just someone who is experienced, but someone who truly cares about your best interests that will work full time for you.

What is the most unique property you’ve listed or sold?
I have definitely had some interesting properties over the years! An original owner home from the 1800’s that may have been haunted, a former brothel, and more. My favorite was probably a 50’s cabin on the Washougal River that was like stepping back in time. There was a waterfall, perfect swimming hole and beach. Heavenly!

What is the most challenging/gratifying aspect of what you do?
I think the biggest challenge for all real estate brokers is that any mistake (and all humans make mistakes) can cause a lot of stress or issues. I once thought a home was plumbed for air conditioning, and it wasn’t, so guess who paid to make it AC ready? Yours truly. I believe in taking responsibility for things, and I am very careful to check all aspects of our listings and purchases. The most gratifying aspect is to see people fall in love with a home. Having a mom, dad and children run through a home picturing themselves in it is so rewarding. Or seeing a new family take over a home that someone has raised a family in.

What do you see in the future for real estate sales/prices?
This is always an interesting question. I went through our recession, watching prices spike in 2006/2007, then fall drastically. I understand that the market always has to correct itself, or all homes would be millions of dollars and no one would be able to afford them. Prices now are where they were in 2007 before the recession, so it will be interesting to see if they level out or drop again.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? Hobbies, volunteering, family, fun?
I have two sons in college, so I love it when they come to visit during the summer and holidays. I am dating someone with a 9 and 14 year old and treasuring the time with him and the kids. We love to ski, travel, and spend time with God both in nature and in bible studies. My parents live locally so I visit my mom and stepdad often. I have a sister with 6 month old twin boys who are pretty much the cutest babies in the world. My family all come together for get togethers and to support each other often. My dad has always been my biggest advocate.

What do you like about living in this area?
I think we live in the most beautiful place in the world. I love that we are a drive away from skiing, the ocean, lakes, hiking and more. Driving along Highway 14 and looking at the river and city with the mountain in the distance is a privilege that I try not to take for granted everyday. I love the small town feel of Vancouver. People are friendly, homes are affordable, the cost of living is better than many other areas, and the schools are excellent.

Anything else you would like our readers to know about you and your company?
As a “fun fact” I am excited to become one of the real estate specialists on AM Northwest on KATU. I will be on every 4 to 6 weeks talking about the latest hot topics in real estate. The next show is on February 25th at 9am. I am proud of The Asivido Team of Knipe Realty NW, Inc. because we all truly care and that IS different than many real estate brokers out there. It is easy to get loans with us because we work with the top lending partners in the industry. We work in both Oregon and Washington as about 60% of our clients are looking on both sides of the river. We enjoy community involvement and sponsor different youth programs.
