How long have you worked in Real Estate?
39 years in Clark County. I received my real estate license on April 11, 1979.

What is your specialty?
Full-time, Full-service Residential Resale Marketing and Listing Specialist

What is one tip you have for someone looking to buy or sell a home?
Oftentimes, the best investment a seller can make is taking the time to research a real estate professional. Finding a professional who will super-serve and negotiate the best deal is important. A bad hire can cost a seller both financially and emotionally.

What is the most unique property you’ve listed or sold?
A property with a home built in the late 1800’s. The home tilted a bit because the “foundation” was actually a few large boulders. Some of the walls had newspaper stuffed inside and it was interesting to read advertising from so long ago. The pear tree in the yard, from about the same time period, is still producing fruit today.

What is the most challenging/gratifying aspect of what you do?
One might think after (nearly) 40 years working in the real estate industry I’ve ‘seen it all’, but I haven’t. Every transaction is different, and each has its own unique ‘twists and turns’. Moving is a stressful event and there are many personal matters to consider during a real estate transaction, and when the journey to closing day ends with a smile on my client’s face, it’s a really really good feeling.

What do you see in the future for real estate sales/prices?
I think the strong housing market will continue in Clark County in 2018. Although interest rates have increased slightly, they still remain at historically low levels.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? Hobbies, volunteering, family, fun?
My wife and I try to enjoy Hawaii as much as possible, and have family there which makes it even extra special. We have fun BBQing, outdoor cooking, tent camping and quad riding adventures! I have two wonderful daughters, both working in the medical field, one locally in Vancouver and the other in Spokane. We’ve had the opportunity to foster dogs in need (and wanted to keep every one)! Dixie Chopper, our little bluetick coonhound (she hails from Alabama), has the softest long ears and keeps us active!

What do you like about living in this area?
My folks moved to the PNW from Ohio back in the 1950’s. I’m so grateful they chose this area and I try to take every opportunity I can to enjoy the beautiful scenery, wildlife, great hiking and all the outdoor adventure surrounding us.

Anything else you would like our readers to know about you and your company?
A real estate transaction is no small thing.  Besides being the largest financial transaction a person may ever undertake, it’s probably the most complex. It’s an honor and privilege to be my client’s real estate professional of choice when it comes to buying or selling a home.  John L.
