Here are some figures to digest along with the turkey leftovers in the fridge: the median home sale price in the third quarter of this year was $342,000 in Clark County, 13.8% higher than a year ago. That’s according to the Washington Center for Real Estate Research. Statewide, median home prices ranged from a high of $658,400 in King County to $93,000 in Lincoln County (between Wenatchee and Spokane). A look at the trend line over the past 10 years shows that we passed the high point of the pre-recession real estate market and just kept going higher. What does the future hold? The crystal ball is cloudy, but one conclusion is clear: affordability is down.

Affordable housing in Clark County is very hard to find. Only 9.8% of homes on the market are priced below $250,000. In fact 33.5% are priced above $500,000. For the first time home buyer (or many with a salary around the Clark County median household income of $58,000), it’s very hard to buy a home. We support measures that increase affordability to make sure that the American dream of homeownership remains possible.
