We need Construction Workers. We have decided to do something about it!!

The last 30 years the education system has been built to get kids to college. This has created a serious problem for the supply of workers in the trades.

I have thought long and hard about trying to do something about it.

I am on the Foundation Board at Clark Community College. I have learned much about the education Clark provides. It is excellent. I have discovered about 45% of the students pursue vocational/technical fields.

It is interesting to me to see that if students get out of high school and choose vocational/technical fields starting their freshman year (a 45% rate at Clark), then why are they not offering more at the high school level.

The tide is starting to turn. Local school districts are starting to add to their Construction Technical Education (CTE) offerings to students. One school district is coaching their school counselors to promote the benefits of pursuing education offerings in the vocational arenas.

When I was in high school, most offered a homebuilding program. Students would leave in the morning and build a house. We need to bring that back. We are here to help.

Next fall both Evergreen High School and Hudson Bay High School will start building tiny homes on their campus. I have worked with Wolf Industries and a private patron to bring this idea to reality.

There is excitement in the air. CTE educators are great people to be around. The ones that I have met are doing a great job.

More to follow.
