It takes a Village……

Let’s suppose for a moment that our high schools are producing 50% of their students to pursue a 4 year college degree. Most of the curriculum is set up to support those students pursuing the now traditional 4 year college degree. What happens to the remaining 50%??? Let’s call them the neglected 50%

I think we know the answer. Which we know has an enormous social cost.

Many countries around the world have got better educational tracts than we do for this neglected group. This needs to change.

Locally, I would like to do something about that. I think it starts with a simple ‘Village’ approach.

I would like the narrative to change. I would like to see family networks of Grandparents, Parents, Siblings, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, etcetera to start talking about the positive path of vocational training. A change in mindset. A pivot toward guiding kids into vocational training.

I would like our Neighbors both young and old start demanding more from our elected officials to start focusing on providing more vocational training for the neglected 50%. Did you know that most high schools have pulled shop from their curriculum? We should be adding more not subtracting.

It has taken a lot of time to get into our current predicament. It will take some time to get out.

It is time now to turn to momentum towards more vocational training. Let’s all talk about it more. Maybe a simple goal of talking about it to someone daily will start a movement to help the neglected 50%.
