How long have you worked in Real Estate?
9 Years.

What is your specialty?
Helping people buy, sell, and invest in real estate. We enjoying educating our clients and letting them know of everything going on in the process. We do this because we often hear from people that have worked with other agents that “were never told that” or “Wow, we were never asked about that.” It’s about knowledge; as it was once said, “knowledge is power.” We want to empower our clients, friends and neighbors.

What is one tip you have for someone looking to buy or sell a home?
For buyers – work with an agent that knows the market and that will ask questions.
For sellers – work with an agent that knows the market and has a track record of success.

What is the most unique property you’ve listed or sold?
A beautiful 1890 condo in the Portland area.

What is the most unusual thing you’ve encountered while working in real estate?
A home in Vancouver that was on the market with another agent for 8 months. We relisted the home at the same price with a new aggressive marketing plan and had a full price offer for our client in 48 hours.

What is the most challenging/gratifying aspect of what you do?
The most gratifying is seeing the face of a client as we finish the buying and/or selling process. The excitement of the new home or the excitement of now moving on to the next chapter after selling their home. Over the last 9 years we have seen this close to 1,000 times.

What do you see in the future for real estate sales/prices?
This is a Tough question. I always tell the people I am working with that my crystal ball is in the shop getting fixed. With that said, I see us going strong and then having a little dip in values in the next 24-36 months. However, real estate is the strongest investment people can make. NAR stated last year (2014) that if you purchased your home in 2000, your home value on average went up 49%. What stock will make you that amount of money in 14 years?

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? Hobbies, volunteering, family, fun?
As a former executive chef of 25 years, I love to cook. I don’t get to do it often enough. Currently, I am helping with the planning of the Vancouver International Food Festival and I’m having a blast doing it. However, my family — my wife, Susan and our daughter Emily — are everything to me and I do this all for them.

What do you like about living in this area?
Being from Atlanta, I find the Portland / Vancouver area amazing. We love it here. We moved to Washougal 10 years ago and started our family in a great neighborhood. Living here allows us to go to the beach, mountains or desert all within only a few hours. We also love the people who are so welcoming. Like anyone we have a close group of friends, and we are always looking for more.

Anything else you would like our readers to know about you and your company?
My wife Susan and I started Ken’s Home Team about 7 years ago. We make an amazing partnership and family. We love what we do and believe that you need to do what you enjoy. We have the passion to help the people around us achieve their dreams.
