Gerry Spencer, Clark County WA real estate agent

How long have you worked in Real Estate?
I started in real estate before you needed a license to sell real estate, you just needed a temporary permit. I have been a licensed agent here in Clark County for 44+ years.

What is your specialty?
Residential real estate is my specialty. I like working with buyers and sellers. New homes, preowned, first time home buyers, downsizing or upsizing — I enjoy it all.

What is one tip for someone looking to buy or sell a home?
Take the time to meet with a professional REALTORĀ® who knows how to ask the right questions so your next buying or selling experience will be the best one ever.

What is the most unique property you’ve listed or sold?
I helped facilitate the sale of the McDonald’s at 129[th] and Hwy 99.

What is the most unusual thing you’ve encountered while working in real estate?
I guess it would be a tie. Early on in my career we were on tour and were looking at an old farm house in Ridgefield. When I opened the door and turned on the lights, there were hundreds of rats scurrying everywhere. The second was a ranch home that had snakes, spiders and tarantulas. In the living room there was a large cage with a sign that said DO NO OPEN, Peter Python. The cage was opened and the snake was out. We left immediately. The owner later apologized. She had taken Peter with her.

What is the most challenging/gratifying aspect of what you do?
I think helping buyers and sellers with the process of solving their real estate needs is very gratifying. Finding a solution to the toughest obstacles and making the transaction come together is the most challenging. The one thing I must say that keeps in my real estate profession is the flexibility to enjoy my family, go to my children’s games and even coach them in their early year.

What do you see in the future for real estate sales/prices?
How does that song go by 5[th] Dimension? Up, Up and Away…Supply and demand still dictate prices, supply is still low so prices will continue to climb. I believe the balloon will pop again and there will be a correction, but not for several years.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? Hobbies, volunteering, family, fun?
I love spending time with my wife. Those who know me know I love to golf. I am a huge fan of NW sports teams. I do auction for fun. My grandfather was quite the auctioneer. I love having my children and grandchildren around. They all live locally but one daughter currently lives in Austin, TX.

What do you like about living in this area?
I was born and raised in Washington. I love to travel and the more I travel the more I realize how lucky I am. We have the most beautiful mountains, lakes and rivers. We have mild winters and moderate summers. We have the best sports teams to watch. Oh, and no state income tax.

Anything else you would like our readers to know about you and your company?
I am happily married to my wife. We have six grown children and seven wonderful grandchildren. Working for the leading professional company like RE/MAX has made my business and professional service to my clients better. I enjoy what I do and if given the opportunity to go back and do something else I would still choose real estate sales. To my future and past clients, I am never too busy for your referrals.
